Lens

LENS (Low Energy Neurofeed System) is a neurofeedback device for restoring optimal brain functioning. This device stimulates the brain out of maladaptive patterns that become stuck.

LENS involves an EEG measuring and recording electrical signals (brainwaves) from the scalp. Using the frequencies of these signals an offset electromagnetic pulse is then directed to the various brain parts.

This electromagnetic pulse will neither be visible, nor will the individual be able to feel the pulse.

By changing the EEG changes occur in brain timing and can create a more activated, alert and stable brain (or a more calmer brain).

The LENS uses a multi stepped approach involving offset determination, site mapping, suppression mapping and total amplitude to determine the order of training and how much training for each site.

At Innovation Psychology Pty Ltd LENS is used in conjunction with other therapies to get the best outcome for the client. So for example EMDR may be used with Neurofeedback and Heart Rate Variability.

What  it can be used for?

Excessive fast or slow activity is associated with brain dysregulation and a variety of clinical symptoms. The LENS has  been found to have good success with the following conditions:

  • Stress & Anxiety Disorders
  • Depression
  • ADD / ADHD
  • Autism Spectrum Disorders
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Aspergers
  • Concussions
  • Eating Disorders
  • Insomnia / Sleep Disorders
  • Tourettes
  • Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
  • Substance Abuse
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Autoimmune Disorders
  • Explosive/Aggressive Behavior
  • Learning Disabilities
  • Migraines
  • Stroke

How effective is it?

LENS has been remarkably effective with over 80% of people who have used it have benefitted significantly.  Results are seen quickly, within 6 to 20 sessions, compared to traditional biofeedback where 40+ sessions are usually needed to see results.

Is the LENS safe?

LENS is a 510K exempt FDA-certified class II device which is considered safer than most 510K biofeedback and neurofeedback devices. Occasionally some clients may experience some short lived side effects of feeling wired or foggy for a number of hours after a treatment. Recurrence or a slight increase in symptoms may occur the first week after treatment, before an improvement in symptoms is then observed.

LENS can be used for peak performance

LENS unique neurofeedback treatment may also benefit people who are already healthy and are interested in peak functioning and inner resilience to stress.  Once symptoms are resolved, there is usually no need for continued sessions because results are long term.

What can I expect if I attend a session?

LENS sessions are usually shorter than traditional neurotherapy sessions. They normally take 30 minutes (except for the first assessment session which takes 1 hour). The client is not required to sit for long periods of time and does not have to concentrate, focus or do specific retraining activities as in traditional neurofeedback. This can be critical for people who are struggling with concentration and ability to sit and focus.
